The Chinese Academy of Sciences first released the global remote sensing monitoring report on wheat

Recently, Dr. Huang Wenjiang, researcher and research team of the Institute of Aerospace Information, Chinese Academy of Sciences, released a remote sensing monitoring report on wheat pests and diseases in both Chinese and English. This is the first time internationally released the global monitoring report on pest and disease.


This monitoring report focuses on the occurrence and development of typical pests and diseases in the key growing seasons of major food crops in major food producing countries, and the 10 major producing countries (including China, Russia) that entered the global middle and late growth stages of wheat from April to May 2018. The development status of wheat rust, scab and aphids in France, Turkey, Pakistan, the United States, Germany, Iran, Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom was quantitatively monitored, and the spatial distribution, degree of damage and area of occurrence were extracted and analyzed. The monitoring results show that wheat pests and diseases are generally mild in the above 10 countries.


In China, the pests and diseases of wheat in 2018 are generally light, and the area of stripe rust, sheath blight, aphids and scab is reduced by 19.7% compared with previous years. Among them, strip rust occurred in an area of about 15.61 million mu, which was marked in the southwest, northwest and Jianghan plains in early April, and was in the mid-late period from mid-April to mid-May, in the Huanghuai, Huazhong and Southwest wheat areas. Diffusion epidemic; the incidence of sheath blight is about 99.39 million mu, which was mainly caused by the disease in Huanghuai and North China wheat areas in early April, and spread in the middle and late April. It is mainly located in Huanghuai, North China and Northwest wheat areas, and reached in mid-May. At the peak of the disease, the Central China, North China and East China wheat areas occurred greatly, and the northwest wheat area occurred slightly; the aphid area was about 110 million mu, which occurred locally in the southwest and Huanghuaihai wheat areas in early April, and reached pests in mid-May. During the peak period, the North China and Huanghuai wheat areas occurred, and most of the northwestern Sichuan and Sichuan basins occurred. The total area of scab in Anhui, Jiangsu, Henan and Hubei provinces was about 20.5 million mu, which was more serious than in previous years. The continuation of the wheat area in the northern part of Anhui Province occurred moderately in the southern part of Jiangsu Province, and some wheat areas in southern Henan and northern Hubei occurred heavily.


Under the current background of global climate change, the extent and prevalence of crop pests and diseases have been significantly expanded and enhanced. Pests and diseases have become one of the most important factors restricting agricultural production and threatening food security. Compared with traditional pest and disease field investigation techniques, remote sensing can effectively and objectively monitor the occurrence and development of crop pests and diseases on a large scale, which is of great significance for timely, efficient and scientific prevention and control of pests and diseases. In recent years, the successive launch of series of high-temporal resolution satellites at home and abroad has provided a good opportunity for remote sensing monitoring and prediction of large-scale crop pests and diseases.


Since 2012, the research team of Huang Wenjiang has carried out a series of research work around the construction of crop pest and disease monitoring, forecasting and prevention and control systems in China, through the self-developed “Research and Forecast System for Crop Pest and Disease Remote Sensing (http://www.rscropmap. Com) Online release of pest maps and scientific reports. In the future, the team will further carry out pest and disease monitoring and early warning work for major food crops such as wheat, rice, corn and soybeans, and regularly issue global crop pest and disease remote sensing monitoring and prediction reports. Provide scientific and technical support for food security and national macro decision-making.
